Floral Pegasus from Cherokee Rose Stud

Floral Pegasus

Australian born and bred, Floral Pegasus (Fusaichi Pegasus x Crown Crest [Mill Reef]) 2002 Chestnut 16 HH will commence his stallion career at Cherokee Rose Stud in 2009. We are thrilled to be able to offer Victorian breeders a stallion that satisfies extensive criteria. Floral Pegasus showed immeasurable finishing power. His racing courage displayed a devout competitive edge and will to win. He will satisfy a criterion for breeders looking for an outcross from Danehill – in fact, Danehill line mares are considered a supreme match to Floral Pegasus along with a wide variety of broodmare sires from Dehere and Red Ransom to Royal Academy and sons thereof. Breeders can rest assured they are also receiving a pedigree that can perform over sprint to middle distance on turf. An Australian born and bred he was a $500k Easter graduate and proved his tenacity by being able to remain an entire and dominate racing at an elite level in Hong Kong. He gained a cult following there after proving he could beat some of the world’s greatest in the likes of Silent Witness and Good Ba Ba. His Group 3 win over 1400m was in world record time of 1:20:06 beating Silent Witness The snap shot of Floral Pegasus is this:
  • Group 1, 2, 3 winner
  • Sprint to middle distance – (1200m – 1800m)
  • He raced on turf and could handle all track conditions
  • 2nd placed 3 times at Group 1 level
  • Placed 3 times at Group 2 level
  • His Group 3 win over 1400m was in world record time of 1:20:06 beating Silent Witness
  • Career earnings of AUD $3,391,145 – more than any other son by Fusaichi Pegasus
  • Australian born and bred ($500,000 Easter yearling graduate)
His dam by Mill Reef (14 starts for 12 wins and 2 seconds) is a full sister to two Group 1 winning successful stallions in Europe It’s no coincidence this horse was a champion and is now a stallion   His breeding is nothing short of equine royalty, being by the tough and consistent Mr Prospector out of a dam by Mill Reef. Mill Reef is something of an enigma having raced 14 times for 12 wins and 2 second placings. He won a Group 1 at 2 years of age over 1400m, then as a 3 year old he won the Group 1 Epsom Derby over a mile and a half, then the Sandown Eclipse Stakes, the Ascot King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes. Over to France for the Gr1 Longchamp Prix Ganay and finally, as the jewel in his crown – he captured the Gr1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe over 2400m at Longchamps. His two seconds are worth mentioning – the Gr1 Two Thousand Guineas and in France & the Group One Maisons-Laffitte Prix Robert Papin. Floral Pegasus offers incredible breeding strength through his female lines with his dam Crown Crest being a full sister to two multiple Group 1 winning sires successfully standing at stud in Europe. It’s no fluke that Floral Pegasus is now a sire and Danny and Hanna believe he has everything required to make the grade.   Where else in Victoria can breeders access such a premium sire for such competitive value? Cherokee Rose Stud – Simply The Best.

It was crucial for us to secure a stallion that was an outcross from Danehill, but more importantly a Group 1 winner on turf over short to middle distance. We were also driven by the challenge to provide Victorian breeders with a superior sire that was affordable, one whom they could recognise as a true champion and whose breeding they were familiar with. Floral Pegasus matches a tremendous benchmark set by larger Victorian studs and his pedigree suits a vast selection of pedigree lines. We were also driven by the need to support breeding in Victoria, it is becoming an increasingly tough industry, but we feel our conscientious price point, sire superiority and our service will encourage breeders to send their mares to us and know they can still afford to stay in the industry at a commercial level. We feel we are well on the way to completing our objective to a near perfect standard. We now offer two exceptional sires; Floral Pegasus and Manner Hill at value for money prices and we consider ourselves flexible and negotiable when it comes to package specials.
